There are many burdock root benefits for individuals that suffer from a variety of ailments. Used as a holistic medication for centuries, the burdock root is commonly used to treat digestive issues. It is best used as a tea with different distillates. 

This native plant, which is actually a weed related to the daisy and sunflower, was typically found in Europe and Northern Asia but is now found growing in the United States. The roots are long and deep. The flower is reminiscent of a Scottish Thistle and grows wild in diverse types of soil.

1. Skin Issues

Skin conditions such as eczema and acne can benefit from using burdock root. Used as a topical treatment, the anti-inflammatory properties help to soothe irritated and sensitive skin. Additionally, the antibacterial assets will work deep into the skin to help heal the causes of many skin irritants. 

Instead of used as a tea, make a paste with a little distilled water and the ground or shaved roots. Apply the paste and leave it on the affected area until it dries, then wipes it off with a clean cloth. 

Another use for this plant is on burns. Much like Aloe Vera plants, the burdock root helps to calm and heal burns.

The burdock root contains a variety of antioxidants, including phenolic acid, luteolin, and quercetin. Each of these can help protect the body’s cells from free radicals that damage the body. Antioxidants are in charge of reducing inflammation in the body, this would include such damage from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes,  psoriasis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
